Sailing toward new horizons

From the upper deck of a sailing boat, a picture of the deck, the sails and the horizon. On the left there is a land.

After ten years in telecommunications and seventeen years serving public media, I’m setting sail toward the healthcare sector — still fully aligned with my humanist values.

I’m proud to have spent these seventeen years meeting challenges and upholding democratic values of inclusion, respect, accessibility, and equality.

I’m deeply grateful to RTBF for welcoming me and giving me the opportunity first to help lay the foundations of today’s public digital ecosystem, and then to lead an inclusive, diverse, and engaged team — a team that stands up for users, embraces difference as a strength, advances accessibility standards, promotes gender-neutral writing, reduces cognitive load, and places the user at the heart of every decision.

I also hope I’ve helped citizens find entertainment through the very first video apps on PS3 and Samsung — the first steps toward Auvio — and offered, alongside my journalist colleagues, tools to better understand democracy and the world around them. And I hope they will forgive me for the advertising that was (and still is) necessary for a public service to maintain its independence and keep fulfilling its mission.

I have a special thought for all those who made the hackathons possible — unique moments that broke down barriers between universities, higher education, academic research, professional training, and career transitions, all united by a mission to share knowledge openly and with care.

Now I’m sailing toward new horizons and new challenges, guided by values even more fundamental to me: universal access to decent healthcare.

To all those I’ve met along these seventeen years in the media world — thank you.
